Privacy Policy
Last updated
Junox is operated by Donte Hartwell, an individual based in Nevada, United States (“we”, “us”, “our”). Junox is in beta. This policy describes how the Junox website (this site) and the Junox beta browser extension handle information today. We’ll update it as the product develops, and we’ll change the date above when we do.
Information we collect
We only collect information you choose to send us through this website:
- Beta signup form: your first name, email address, and, if you add it, what you’re studying.
- Contact form: your name, email address, and your message.
- Beta feedback form: the type of feedback (bug, feature request, AI response issue, installation problem, or other) and your description. Optionally, an email address, which we use only to reply to that feedback; your Junox version number; and a short browser description such as “Chrome 129 on macOS”, which the form fills in from your browser and you can edit or clear. We also record whether you opened the form from the extension or the website. Nothing else is collected with it.
- Basic technical information that any web server receives, such as your IP address, browser type, and the time of your request. Our hosting provider may keep this in standard server logs.
How we use it
We use beta signup details to contact you about the Junox beta, including installation steps and requests for feedback. We use contact form messages to reply to you. We use beta feedback to fix problems and improve Junox, and, if you gave an email address, to reply about that feedback only. We use technical information to keep the site running and to block spam and abuse—for example, briefly counting requests from the same IP address to stop automated submissions.
We don’t sell your information.
Beta signup information
When you join the beta, your details are stored with the service we use to manage signups so we can reach out to you. Contact messages and beta feedback are delivered to us the same way (saved with that service and/or sent to us as an email notification). You can ask us to update or delete your signup or feedback at any time through the contact page.
Content you submit
Anything you type into a form on this website (beta signup, contact, or feedback) is used only for the purpose of that form. The interactive demo on our homepage is a pre-written demonstration: nothing you click in it is sent anywhere.
The Junox extension and AI processing
Summary: When you use Junox AI, lesson text from the Canvas sites you've added, or any page where you open Junox from the toolbar, is sent to the Junox server and processed by OpenAI to generate answers. This happens automatically when Auto Analyze is on, or when you ask. If you use your own AI provider, it goes to that provider instead. Junox stores an anonymous install ID, daily usage counts, and short-lived IP-based rate-limit counters. No browsing history or passwords are collected.
This website does not send the information you enter to an AI model. The Junox browser extension does, as described here.
Junox AI (the default). When you study a page, highlight text to explain, ask a question, or ask for practice, the extension sends that text to the Junox server (junox.onrender.com), which uses OpenAI to write the answer. Along with the text, it sends the page title, course name, page type, your explanation level and study focus, nearby text around a highlight, and your recent questions and answers in that conversation. It does not send the page address. On the Canvas sites you’ve added, “Auto Analyze” is on by default, so opening a lesson sends its text to create a study guide; you can turn this off in the extension’s Settings. Quiz and exam pages are never analyzed automatically. On any other website, Junox reads a page only when you open Junox on it yourself, from the toolbar icon or the keyboard shortcut.
Before sending, the extension removes Canvas navigation and tries to remove your name, email addresses, phone numbers and student IDs from the text. It skips form fields, so passwords and anything you type into a page are not read.
Each Junox AI request carries a random, anonymous install ID created by the extension, and a beta access key that is the same for every copy of the beta. The Junox server uses the install ID to count requests per day and enforce the beta’s daily limit.
Rate limiting by IP address. To prevent abuse, the Junox AI server keeps short-lived counts of requests by IP address. IP addresses are stored only as a keyed (HMAC) hash, never in plain form, and these counters, along with the per-install daily counts, expire within 25 hours. The server’s request logs record only a short prefix of the install ID, the feature used, the AI model, token counts, cost, response time and whether the request succeeded; they contain no IP addresses, lesson text or prompts. This website’s forms (beta signup, contact and feedback) do the same in the server’s memory for 10 minutes at a time; those counts aren’t saved anywhere.
Your own AI provider (optional). If you choose Ollama or an OpenAI-compatible service (such as OpenAI, Groq or OpenRouter) in the extension’s Settings instead of Junox AI, the text goes directly from your browser to that provider instead, not to the Junox server or OpenAI through Junox, and that provider’s own privacy policy applies. Ollama usually runs on your own computer. If you enter an API key, it’s kept in the extension’s storage on your computer: in Chrome’s local storage when “Remember key after the browser closes” is on (the default), or only in memory until the browser closes when it’s off. The key is only sent to the provider you chose.
On your computer. The extension keeps its settings (including the Canvas sites you’ve allowed), the install ID, and, if “Save study history” is on, your study history (page addresses and titles, study guides, key concepts, text you asked to have explained, and quick-check results) in Chrome’s local storage for the extension. Raw page text isn’t stored. Saved study guides are reused for up to 7 days by default. You can clear history and cached guides in Settings; removing the extension deletes all of it.
The extension doesn’t include analytics or tracking code, and it doesn’t read your passwords, cookies, browsing history, or pages other than the ones you use it on.

We rely on a small number of providers to run this website. They process information only to provide their service to us.
- Render, which hosts this website and the Junox AI server.
- OpenAI, which generates answers for requests made through Junox AI in the extension.
